Film’s Not Dead

Scanned ImageI love film photography. I love looking through the lens and manually adjusting it. I love not being able to see the image right after I take it- the waiting builds suspense. I love playing around with different film cameras, though I do have a special spot in my heart for my vintage Asahi Pentax K1000.  There’s something magical about film that digital just doesn’t have, so I’ve decided to start a little re-occurring column showing a few of my film photos. Above and below are the very first contact sheets I ever developed (about 6 years ago) which led to my discovery and start of my love with the Holga Camera. The Holga is basically just a cheap plastic camera and uses 120mm film, which means it produces square images. You also control the shutter speed and roll the film yourself – therefore allowing you to play around with overlapping images or double exposures.

P.S.  I also want to add a little disclaimer- these film images have not been retouched or altered in any way in order to preserve the integrity of what a film photo is and stands for.

I love it when people are happy. I love making people happy, I love being around happy people, and I love just seeing happy people. It makes me happy knowing others are happy too. With that in mind, I’ve decided to start a little reoccurring column, if you will, showcasing some of the photographs I’ve taken of people that show joy, whatever their joy may be. I hope you enjoy, and I hope that these photos will put a smile on your face and a little extra spring in your step, as they often do for me! These are of Jake, happily playing in a little pile of sand on the street.

Launches I Love: Bonobos Fall 2014 Men’s Suit Collection

Gentlemen, take note: the ladies love a man in a good tux. However we know that a good tux, especially one you feel great about investing in, can be hard to find. The same goes for a modern suit or stylish updated blazer. Enter Bonobos with their recently launched Fall 2014 Men’s Suit Collection, and oh man is it good. For those not in the know, Bonobos is a men’s clothing company  full of well-designed, well-fitting clothes- everything from your basic pant to outerwear, formal attire, accessories (I love the super cool pocket squares!) and more.

The new collection is chock full of luxurious wool suits, tweed blazers, and tuxedos that feel perfectly at home in the crisp, falling-leaf-filled-air of Autumn. The suits and blazers have been updated on the interior as well, and not just with fun fabrics- say goodbye to awkwardly fishing for your business cards and hello to a new ergonomic interior pocket that allows you to quickly and smoothly whip out those babies and start networking.

These suits are classic in design but fun in their fabrics- I am particularly obsessed with the Capstone Slim Tuxedo in Blackwatch Plaid. This is the absolute perfect plaid for both fall and early winter, especially holiday, parties, and makes just enough of a statement. If you prefer something a little more subtle, try the Capstone Slim in either Grey Honeycomb if you want a bit of texture, or Navy Herringbone for something classic.

Don’t worry if you’re not in need of Black Tie though, you can still get in on the fun! I love the Capstone Slim Suits as well as the tuxedos, particularly the Grey Windowpane (pictured above). The luxurious tweeds and wools used in both the suits and blazers are perfectly cozy and fall-ish, and work just as well dressed up as they do dressed down. Personally, my favorite Blazer would have to be the Nottingham in any of the tweeds, though I am particularly smitten with the Grey Tweed Nottingham (and not just because of the photos below- hellooo sexy!)

Whether you need a blazer, a suit, or a tuxedo, Bonobos is absolutely the place to go. And Ladies, don’t let the men have all the fun- check out AYR, Bonobos line for us girls. Happy Shopping!
