For the Fourth: What to Wear

If you still don’t know what to wear for the 4th of July, here you go!
Over your super sweet swimwear (try saying that five times fast), you could either do a dress, or a top and bottoms (see below). Sequin dresses (1) are always welcome for anything, especially the fourth. Striped dresses, like the Yves Saint Laurent Printed Tulip Dress (2)Chinti and Parker Striped Organic Cotton Mini Dress (3)Marc by Marc Jacobs Helga Striped Knit Dress (4)Romwe Navy Striped Sleeveless Dress (5), and the Melissa Odabash Jamie Striped Mini Dress (6) are perfectly fourth-y. Stars and Stripes, right? Forever 21 Polka Dot Dresses (7) and See by Chloe Denim Bustier Babydoll dresses (8) work well as well. If you want solids, go for Topshop’s Drop Waist Shift Dress (9) or Issa’s Eyelet-Embroidered Cotton Dress (10). If you want to go full-out-flag,  Storets Stars and Stripes Dress (11) and BDG’s Knit Flag Print Dress (12) are your best friends.
If you live in a hot climate or have great abs, I highly suggest wearing this Topshop Flag Bralet (1). If you want American Flag style: Equipment Stars and Stripes Silk Shirt (2) (which also comes in long sleeve, for the life of me I don’t know why it’s so expensive), Nasty Gal America Shirt (3)BDG American Flag Chambray Shirt (4)Hilfiger Denim Flag Print Tank, or the Haute Hippie Haute Hoodie Flag Poncho (6).
Moving on to the bottoms, you don’t want to be pant less. Or maybe you do, which is fine too. hey, it’s a free country. If you want to cover your legs, well, bum really, there are quite a wide variety of denim short options for you, including Rag and Bone Mila Shorts (1)J Brand Low-rise Denim Cutoff Shorts (2/3)Siwy Camilla Cutoff Shorts (4)Siwy Cutoff Shorts (5)Current/Elliott The Boyfriend Star Print Denim Shorts (6)J Brand Star Cutoff Shorts (7)Asos American Flag Print Denim Shorts (8)Topshop Bleach Flag Print Hotpants (9) and Anthropologie’s Bleach-Dipped Shorts (14). For non-denim shorts, the J.Crew Dapper Striped Shorts (10).

For the Fourth: Swimwear

In the second post (the first of women’s) for attire appropriate for celebrating our great nation that is the US of A on the fourth of the seventh month of the year, we have swimwear! because, what better way to celebrate our independence than in barely-there clothing? In our nations colors and patterns, of course. We start out with suits that are sophisticated, could be worn at other times during the summer, but are still vaguely patriotic. “What?! My suit is blue! And fringed! Doesn’t our flag have fringe on it?!” Yes, I think it does. Point made, in your Norma Kamali Fringed Bikini (2) no less. That argument won’t work with the YSL High-Waisted Bandeau Bikini (1) or the Noelle Holly Ruched Underwire Swimsuit (3) but I’m sure you could come up with something. They are red and white, after all.
Next, we get into those things a little  more patriotic, like the J.Crew Searsucker Tank Swimsuit (4) and the Old Navy Gingham Skirthed-Halter Bikini (5). OK, so they might not be super 4th-y, but they are still summery. The Xhilaration Reversible Bikini (6) is probably the most America-Loving you can get, while the Miu Miu Plunge-Front Swimsuit (7) is probably the least (but navy is a color of ours, right?) Lisa Marie Fernandez is basically killin’ it with her one-piece (8) and bikini (9) in red, white, and blue stripe. Killin’ it.

For the Guys: Dressing for the Fourth

The Fourth of July is so fun, isn’t it? It’s the only time one can wear Red, White, and Blue together without looking like a fool, and it’s an even better excuse to buy new clothing. While the Ladies have a little bit more of a variety to choose from, there are still some great pieces for guys. Bonobos is going all out with special edition “Bold Glory” Shorts (1) and Bow ties (2). The J.Crew Plaid Shirt (3) and the 4. Ray-Bans (4) are a little more toned down, but still patriotic. The two belts are probably my favorite items, especially the  Smathers and Branson American Flag Needlepoint Belt (5) but Anderson’s Striped Belt (6) isn’t bad either. The Rag and Bone Shorts (7) are fun and aren’t too 4th-of-July-y- you could wear them any time of the year, really. And finally, we have the TOMS (8), which are really just too cool for words.
