Dressing For: Outside Lands

Outside Lands is pretty much like any other music festival in that your inner hippie gets to come out, except this time it has to come out slightly more clothed. San Francisco, home of the Hippies, is at it’s foggiest in the summer (so if you are planning a visit, wait until October or November), so more than just a bathing suit top is required. While it won’t be raining, layers and jackets are highly recommended, especially as you go from morning (foggy) to midday (sunny/warmish) to night (cold).

Jersey Maxi Dress (1) is always a good option, as are something a little more substantial for the leg area, like AllSaints Paradise Leggings (2), or BDG’s Embroidered Cigarette Jeans (3) and Maroon High Rise Cigarette Jeans (4). Next layer a sweater like Wildfox Couture’s worn-chic Lennon Sweater (5) or Isabel Marant’s sporty-cool Cilla Crochet Lace Pullover (6) over a tank, a Woven Bustier (7), or a Perfect Chambray Ex-Boyfriend Shirt (8), which could also go over a tank top that has a bustier under it. Layering! In addition or instead of, depending on your body temperature and the weather, a sweater coat- Flower Power Cardi (9)– or a real coat- QSW Beach Blanket Coat (11) will keep you nice and toasty. If you really want to go all out, though, the Isabel Marant Miel Suede Fringed Jacket (12) is pretty much the perfect thing, for any facet of life.

Footwear for this occasion includes Billy Short Boots (13)Ankle Boot with Studded Toe (14), and Superga’s 2750 Metallic Sneakers (16), because even hippies need a little metallic in their lives. Moccasins are also acceptable. You might also see birkenstocks, which are not acceptable, ever, but hippies will be hippies. Ski-like socks-Marled Boot Sock (17)– are fully acceptable, especially if casually poking out of one’s boots. Keep your neck either fashionable or warm with Dannijo’s Brielle Necklace (10) and AllSaints Blossom Decay Scarf (15). Your wrists will probably be cold anyways, so go ahead and jewel those up with an awesome Vintage Marana Cuff (19), or any other vintage or wild-west-inspired thing. The Hepcat Shades (18) might not be vintage or wild west, but they are still cool. And, of course, one needs a backpack at these sort of festival like things, so here you go-Tribal Leather Flap Backpack (20).

Currently Craving: Shoes from the Barney’s Warehouse Sale

So I was going to do a post covering the entirety of the Barney’s Warehouse Sale, online for the first time ever, but then I got to the shoe section and it all went to hell. There are too many pairs and so little blog space to show them with, especially if combined with clothing, the horror! Instead, what you see below is a nice little collection from the sensational shoe section available to us all now! Not just those in New York and Los Angeles! (Though I was enjoying being part of that club). The Barney’s Warehouse Sale is my favorite time of the year (when it happens, at least, since Couture time is a have when that happens, and fashion week time, and so on). But I digress. Now, see for yourselves, and relish in the show glory.

First we have Chloé, with the Chunky Criss-Cross Wedge (1) -which, I might add, I have shown before-and the Snakeskin Platform Sandal (2), if you prefer something more delicate. Continuing on with yellow, we have Phillip Lim’s Espie (3) and then Rag & Bone’s Hanalei Ballet Flats (4) which aren’t yellow, but fell next to the yellow shoes because they are flats, just like the pair before them. In continuation with the now blue theme we have going, we have Manolo Blahnik’s Pamukfac (10) and the Alexander Wang Aida (5), whose textured pieces might start molting like a bird does, in which case the shoes would be ever sicker.

Moving on from shedding shoes we have Haider Ackermann, who just kills it in everything he does, and in particular with these Laser Cut (6) and Brocade (7) Oxfords, which are particularly amazing in that your ankles will be saved from blisters due to the lack of a back in the shoe, which also make you look like you don’t care that your expensive oxfords are folded down to save you blisters, which, in turn, makes you the coolest ever.

If you prefer a Chunky Shoe, meet Sergio Rossi’s Sandal (8), Rag & Bone’s Cutout Platform Sandal (9), and both Proenza Schoulers Slingback (11) and Slingback Cutout (12) Platform Wedges. They are your new best friends. And last but not least, though not chunky, is Pierre Hardy’s Cube Mask Sandal (13).

Currently Craving: Summer Rompers

9. Topshop Anchor Print Playsuit

I have made the decision that Rompers are actually the best item of clothing in the world. Not only are they adorable, but they are super versatile. You get the freedom of shorts with the look of a dress. What could be better?! You can go from playground to dinner to dancing, etc., etc. (Provided you meet the age requirements for both playground and bar).
There are a lot of rompers out there, most likely one for every occasion, and every body type, though I am still trying to find one that isn’t too short-waisted. I think the Alex Wang or the Vanessa Bruno might be my answer. Stay tuned. In the meantime, shop away
